  • Overview

    The Brody Lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist in ongoing research experiments. This position is ideal for someone interested in gaining experience doing research for 1 or 2 years before going to graduate school or medical school. In the Brody Lab we use the rat as a model system to study a range of higher cognitive functions. This position will assist with a project seeking to uncover how the mammalian brain makes decisions based on the gradual accumulation of noisy information. Applicants will be expected to interact extensively with research animals and perform surgical procedures. The position will involve building custom electrophysiological recording and optogenetic implants, recording, and analyzing neuronal activity during behavior. Applicants should have some basic computer programming experience. Laboratory experience strongly preferred.     This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension contingent upon funding and performance.


    • Building custom electrophysiological recording and optogenetic implants, recording, and analyzing neuronal activity during behavior.
    • Participation in experimental design and execution of experiments.
    • Participation in group meetings.
    • Other lab duties as assigned.


    • Bachelors degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology or related field.
    • Lab experience preferred.
    • Basic computeer programming experience.
    • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively.
    • Strong attention to detail and meticulous lab notebook keeping.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Enthusiasm for neuroscience.
