Overview

The Lab Technician will be responsible for the wellbeing and training of rodents in a laboratory space. This position is also responsible for basic maintenance of the space and communications between technicians pots docs, Grad and Undergrad students to coordinate data collection.
 
Work will involve exposure to malodorous vapors and may involve exposures to low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances.
 
This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and continued funding.

Responsibilities

  • Training and handling of animals in the behavioral spaces, data collection.
  • Rig Building, organization, inventory.
  • Rig maintenance and repair.
  • Assist lead technician in the training of new staff, technicians, grad and undergrad students and post docs on the use of the behavioral training facility.
  • Writing and routinely updating the VR behavioral SOP and Instructional manuals/ internal documentation on hardware and software in the rigs.
  • Attend weekly meeting to review the status of the training space and plan for upcoming projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1+ years work experience
  • Microsoft suite
  • Google suite
  • General understanding of basic computer functions
  • Must be able to work in a laboratory environment with protective equipment and ability and willingness to adhere to strict SOP regulations
  • Must be willing to regularly handle and work with rodents
  • Ability to work on weekends on call and holidays is required
  • Position requires a reasonable level of mobility in which a technician remains in active movement while carrying various weights of approximately 14 lbs. for periods of 45-90 minutes with periods of seated work in between.

Preferred

  • Experience with basic soldering, computer programming, machining, or 3D printing would be a plus
