Overview

Princeton Neuroscience Institute is looking for an experienced animal research technician to support the PNI marmoset neuroscience research program for the Krienen Lab. The technician must have excellent references that highlight their research or veterinary experience, their organization skills, attention to detail, and their willingness to work as part of a research team. In particular, the individual should have excellent interpersonal skills as they will be a primary liaison across the research lab, and veterinary and regulatory personnel. The ideal candidate would be motivated to learn and able to accommodate the health needs of the animals with a flexible schedule as required.

 

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the lab’s animal colonies (marmoset and mouse) and supervising/training research personnel. This requires working closely with veterinary staff to manage animal well-being, including clinical care of animals, teaching/supervising laboratory personnel on appropriate care and animal procedures, and facilitating animal enrichment. 
  • Maintain all clinical records and assist with regulatory requirements, including maintaining animal and biosafety protocols. 
  • Support surgical and experimental procedures, train laboratory personnel on experimental and handling techniques, and will assist with experiments. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, or a related field, or an associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology or a related Applied Science.
  • Experience with mammals, ideally primates, in a research setting.
  • Familiarity with animal husbandry, regulatory requirements, surgical assistance, and behavioral and experimental techniques.
  • Basic computer skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scientific curiosity and strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are hightly favored.
  • Research and animal husbandry experience with marmosets and rodents.
  • Previous experience providing clinical care and enrichment to non-human primates.
