Overview

This Senior Research Specialist position at the Institutional Antiracism and Accountability (IARA) Project, directed by Professor Khalil Gibran Muhammad, at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, will contribute to research and policy analysis focused on health equity and history of medicine. This position will play a key role in all aspects of the ongoing Truth, Reconciliation, Healing, and Transformation (TRHT) Archival Research Project.

 

The TRHT Research Project is a landmark initiative in partnership with the American Medical Association (AMA). Looking at the AMA archives in Chicago, this project examines the historical roots of racial disparities in American healthcare to develop actionable strategies for restorative justice and health equity. The Senior Research Specialist will lead the ongoing data collection, analysis, literature review, editing cycles, publication, and project coordination.

 

In addition, this role will work closely with the IARA Director and Associate Director to grow a vibrant network of health equity professionals and advocates, identify new opportunities for research, and strategize the dissemination of health equity research (for example, through symposia or editorial).

 

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, 1-year term position with a possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

Research & Analysis

  • Collaborates with principal investigator (PI) and researchers to ensure the TRHT project scope, objectives, and deliverables are met.
  • Reviews and synthesizes academic literature and technical reports to support evidence-based research.
  • Designs and executes policy experiments, surveys, and social studies relevant to STEM and healthcare disciplines.
  • Produces research summaries, technical memos, and reports with actionable insights.

Project Coordination & Workflow Management

  • Works with the principal investigator (PI) to coordinate the writing and editing process for the TRHT project through to publication, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Develops and maintains project roadmaps to ensure timely completion of research objectives.
  • Monitors research milestones, ensuring adherence to deadlines, ethical guidelines, and institutional protocols.
  • Organizes research materials, maintains databases, and ensures version control for key documents.
  • Participates in team meetings, strategy sessions, and stakeholder briefings to align research goals with project needs.

Writing, Knowledge Dissemination & Policy Recommendations

  • Develops scientific publications, policy briefs, and presentations based on research findings.
  • Supports the creation of digital research archives, curated collections, and data visualizations.
  • Identifies opportunities for translational research and healthcare innovation.
  • Assists in grant applications, funding proposals, and project reporting.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities

  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Masters or advanced degree
  • Research Methodologies – Expertise in experimental design, data collection, and advanced policy analysis.
  • STEM & Healthcare Knowledge – Strong foundation in biomedicine, public health, engineering, and historical research.
  • Technical Writing & Communication – Ability to translate complex research findings into clear, concise reports.
  • Project Management – Experience in managing multi-phase research projects, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Ethics & Compliance – Familiarity with IRB protocols, ethical research guidelines, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Supports multidisciplinary research efforts to advance innovation in healthcare and STEM fields.
