The Department of Physics at Princeton University is seeking an experienced technician to support the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Outer Tracker (OT) upgrade project.
The OT is a multilayer silicon tracking detector designed to measure the trajectories of charged particles produced in high-energy collisions at the Large Hadron Collider facility at CERN. The upgraded detector will include more than 13,000 silicon modules and will fully replace the current strip tracker in preparation for high-luminosity operations scheduled to begin near the end of this decade. The Princeton CMS group is responsible for wire bonding, encapsulation, and testing of more than 1000 of these modules.
Position Summary:
This role involves the assembly and packaging of advanced research devices for the Department of Physics and Princeton’s Materials Institute. The successful candidate will apply their expertise in precision assembly, bonding, encapsulation and inspection techniques, particularly in cleanroom environments, under the direction of Professor James Olsen and the Princeton CMS Group.
