Overview

The Research Manager role will manage and coordinate research and policy projects based in Africa focused on political economy, gender, agriculture development and innovation. The role will provide research management, strengthen institutional partnerships and ensure compliance with grant and University requirements for multiple research projects led by Professor Leonard Wantchekon. This position will further enhance Princeton’s ability to conduct high-impact research and translate findings into policy and practice across African countries.

 

This is a two-year term position, eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities

The Research Manager will lead the operational, strategic, and partnership aspects of a portfolio of cutting-edge economics and political economy research focused on Africa. This role combines research administration, policy engagement, and institutional collaboration to support large-scale projects examining governance, state capacity, education, agriculture development and innovation.

 

The Research Manager will oversee project implementation across multiple countries, coordinate with academic and policy partners, manage research staff, and ensure that findings inform policymaking and public discourse. The position requires exceptional organizational skills, strong policy and partnership experience, and the ability to manage complex international collaborations and partnerships.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, International Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in research and policy management and practise, or international development.
  • Demonstrated experience managing partnerships with governmental and institutional stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of economics research methods and field-based data collection.
  • Experience working in or with African countries.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with grant management, fundraising and donor relations.
  • Background in strong institutional partnerships with government and policy entities.
  • Proficiency in French and/or other African languages.
  • Established network within African policy and academic institutions.
