Overview

Princeton University's Department of Molecular Biology seeks applicants for a Research Specialist position to join a laboratory focused on mammalian developmental genetics and evolution.  The successful candidate will manage essential operating procedures for the lab and work with the P.I. to design and perform experiments. Specific duties will include molecular cloning, histology, in situ hybridization, nucleic acid extraction and library preparation, animal work, tissue culture and media preparation, as well as lab maintenance, organization, safety and ordering. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments in the lab involving various molecular biology techniques such as molecular cloning, histology, in situ hybridization, nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, and basic bioinformatic analysis.
  • Perform animal colony management and maintenance.
  • Lab maintenance, organization, safety, ordering, and training of new personnel.
  • Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.

 

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences plus 1-2 years' previous laboratory experience.
  • Basic molecular biology methods and computer literacy are essential.
  • Must be highly motivated and have demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and carry out independent research.
  • Excellent organization skills, ability to communicate effectively and willingness to learn new techniques are necessary traits.

Preferred

  • Previous experience with animal model systems and/or mammalian tissue culture is preferred but not necessary.
  • A strong background in molecular biology and/or genetics is highly desirable along with the ability to perform advanced mouse work including colony management, genotyping and minor dissections.
