  • Overview

    Princeton University's Neuroscience Institute seeks applicants for two Research Specialist positions to join a laboratory whose work focuses on neural mechanisms underlying sensory processing and sensory-driven behaviors in the fruit fly, Drosophila. We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working individual who has a willingness to learn and acquire new skills (and demonstrated track record in learning new techniques).

    This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal contingent upon performance and funding.

    Responsibilities

    • assist postdoctoral fellows in the lab on projects related to identifying neurons involved in multisensory integration behaviors; and assist with the anatomical characterization of neural circuits
    • take on an independent project related to multisensory processing in flies
    • perform general lab maintenance duties, including Drosophila genetic experiments and establish and maintain fly stocks

    Qualifications

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelors degree or higher.
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well with others.
    • Outstanding references.
    • Willingness to learn and acquire new skills (and demonstrated track record in learning new techniques).
    • Two years minimum prior research experience at a University or Medical School.
    •  Working knowledge of neuroscience.  

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Basic computer programming skills (in Matlab/Python or equivalent).
    • Experience working with Drosophila and/or performing neural recordings (electrophysiology or imaging) in animals.
